Condolences To Watson Family. It is with great sadness the club has learnt of the passing of life long supporter Terry Watson. Terry rarely missed a game when Crusaders played until illness forced him unfortunately.

Terry would have be seen in recent years every game sitting under the main stand in his wheelchair getting behind Stephen and his team with his son at his side and attended as many away games as possible also.

On behalf of everyone at Crusaders Foootball Club Chairman Ronnie Millar wishes to offer deepest symathies and condolences to the Watson family circle on the passing of Terry and asks that we keep the Watson family circle in our thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks ahead at this sad time.

It was a tight affair that Crusaders edged throughout and they where rewarded with two goals in the final ten minutes from a Jordan Forsythe penalty and a wonder goal from Ross Clarke.

Ross Clarke hit the post from a tight on 10 minutes and as Glentoran started to come into the game they had a shot that went across the front of Gerard Dohertys goal with no one in the six yard box to finish after 18 minutes.

Glentoran rallied for a short while but Jordan Owens helped his defence out twice before Marcus Kane had a shot from outside the box that went wide.

Crusaders hit back and a good build up came to an end when a Ross Clarke cross was palmed away by Rory Brown on 28 minutes while another cross was just too high for Jordan Owens to get his head on it.

Crusaders did have the ball in the net on 39 minutes but the referee disallowed in for a foul on Rory Brown and just before the half time whistle Rory Brown again was in a good position to deny Ross Clarke a goal.

That ended the half and it was at the break. Jordan Forsythe had the first effort of the second half but his 35 yard effort was charged after a free kick was touched into his path.

Philip Lowrys shot on 49 minutes was unlucky not to be touched into the net by Declan Caddell and the next cross into the box saw Jordan Owens head wide.

Jusdt a minute later Ross Clarke had a good effort blocked and Glentoran countered quickly before the move broke down.

Crusaders went straight up the pitch but Ross Clarke this time hit his shot into the side netting. Glentoran then missed their best chance of the day when Jay Donnelly met a cross unmarked around eight yards out but he headed over much to the relief of the Crusaders defence.

On 73 minutes it was Crusaders who went close but Philip Lowry watched as his shot crashed off the post into the path of Ross Clarke but his shot was welled saved by Rory Brown.

It was all Crusaders by this stage and Chris Hegarty could have opened the scoring on 79 minutes but he screwed his shot wide at the back post.

Crrusaders only had to wait a few more minutes before they finally got the goal they had been close too so many times.

A handball in the box by a Glentoran defender was spotted by the referee and he had no hesitation in pointing to the spot from which which Jordan Forsythe cooly slotted home and it was Crusaders on 82 minutes.

Two minutes later it was with a goal of the season contender from Ross Clarke. Ross collected the ball ouside the box before cutting in beating defender after defender as he made his way across the penalty area before dispatching the ball past Rory Brown into the corner of the net.

Three well deserved points and and convincing display from Stephen Baxters side leaving them in third place in the Premiership table.

Work and prep now starts as the focus turns to next Saturday and the visit to Seaview of Portadown 3pm.

Team Line Up Crusaders are at home this week in the Danske Bank Premiership and Glentoran are the visitors for this top clash.

Crusaders will want a reaction to last weeks defeat to Glenavon at Mourneview Park while Glentoran will be looking to keep the Premiership climb going after a poor start to the season.

Crusaders where by their own admission below par last week and will be bursting to show their real quality this time. Sean O'Neill was a late call off against Glenavon with Gerard Doherty stepping in with only minutes to kick off so we wait to see who starts in goals.

Paul Heatley got back to the bench last week after being out with an injury and may be in line for a recall today. The midfield was changed last week with fresh legs getting a start so Stephen Baxter has a headache as to will get the nod this time round having watched several players getting game time.

Stephen Baxter will demand three points to stay in touch at the top as we head to the busy Christmas period and also to try and build momentum for a title challenge.

Glentoran after a poor start to the season are beginning to show signs of a squad that will justify the large wage bill and squad they have put together.

Defeat at Seaview in the Shield Final on Wednesday will have no bearing on todays game as Mick McDermott fielded nearly a totally different side to the previous game.

Mick McDermott will have his team up for this game as they gather a head of steam in the Premiership and they will certainly want to get up the table as fast as they can.

So another big game at Seaview and unfortunately due to restrictions supporters will not be in attendance. You will then be able to view the game.

It is advisable to make sure it works beforehand and there is a dedicated email to help with any issues should they arise. This game will be free to season ticket holders as voted on at the AGM.

This price was agreed by full members present at the AGM. Get behind the lads once again from home.

They know you want to be at Seaview but know you are vwith them in spirit. C'mon the Crues. Keep The Faith. We play Glentoran on Saturday at Seaview and once again due to restrictions supporters will not be able to attend.

On the plus side though you can follow the game via a live stream that will be available to everyone thanks to Ian at CruesTV and Aidrain at Make sure you are tuned in at 3pm on Saturday to once again support the lads from a distance, C'mon the Crues.

December Programme Available for Pre Order. The December Edition of the Crusaders Matchday Programme is now available to pre order ahead of a busy month at Seaview.

It will provide vital support as clubs are either forced to play without fans or not able to play football at all, owing to COVID restrictions.

As a thank you, National Lottery players, who make a difference every time they buy a ticket, will also get a range of benefits — including free tickets once stadia have fully reopened and VIP experiences with the Northern Ireland national side.

The clubs are important parts of their communities and the funding recognises their role beyond just a 3pm kick off on a Saturday afternoon.

They provide a source of pride to their local areas and have been at the heart of their communities through the duration of the pandemic.

The funds will play a key role in ensuring that the clubs can continue to exist and operate during the pandemic.

The money will be distributed by the Irish FA to clubs ensuring their continued survival. We would like to express our sincere thanks to The National Lottery for their support in safeguarding the immediate future of our clubs.

We are extremely grateful to The National Lottery for this vital funding package, which will go a long way in helping these clubs keep going until fans are safely able to return to grounds and stadia.

I am a huge football fan and I think all fans will be delighted to know that their clubs are getting the support they need. Work continues on a partnership with the Scottish FA.

The money for these initiatives is coming from a National Lottery promotional fund. Glenavon laid siege to Crusaders goal but Gerard Doherty and his defence stood strong for the rest of the half.

He was the longest-serving manager in the club's history until surpassed by Stephen Baxter in October Subsequently, a lack of funds saw the Seaview fortunes decline as the decade came to a close, with Dublin-based player-managers Aaron Callaghan and Martin Murray both resigning after one year apiece in charge.

Callaghan managed to lead the club to third place in his sole season in charge, but it would be many years before the Crues would challenge at such a high level again.

Former player Gary McCartney took over the managerial reins in July The team narrowly retained Premier Division status after a nail-biting play-off success over Lisburn Distillery thanks to a hat-trick from veteran Stephen Baxter in May but McCartney resigned just over twelve months later because of the limited budget at his disposal.

Popular veteran defender Alan Dornan was appointed as McCartney's successor at the end of June and the side retained Premier Division status that season under his guidance, although the squad was very inexperienced and often included six or seven teenagers.

The emphasis on youth continued in —04 as the Crues achieved a mid-table finish, an improvement compared to preceding seasons.

Dornan's next season in charge was not as successful. He was sacked just after midway through the season, as the Crues lay at the bottom of the table, despite having guided the team to the County Antrim Shield final, which they lost to Linfield.

Dornan was the first ever Crusaders manager to be sacked. Former striker and fans' favourite Stephen Baxter was appointed as manager but despite an improvement in results, he could not keep the club in the Premier League, with the Crues losing out to Glenavon in a relegation play-off, the first ever Premier League team to lose to a First Division side in the play-offs.

The relegation was the first time Crusaders had ever been relegated from any league, and meant an end to 56 consecutive seasons of senior football. After their first season back in the top flight after promotion, the Hatchetmen finished in a creditable 6th place, after briefly topping the table at the beginning of the season.

In the —08 season, the Crues finished in 7th position in the League after a somewhat inconsistent start to the season. During —09 season, they finished in the top three of the League for the first time in 10 years.

The club also won their first Irish Cup final since , thanks to a Mark Dickson goal, in a 1—0 victory over Cliftonville at Windsor Park on 9 May This became their permanent venue for home matches in The game was drawn 1—1 with David Rainey scoring on the 89th minute.

The artificial football turf pitch was manufactured by Act Global. They played their first game on the new pitch against Glentoran on 14 November In the —11 season Crusaders challenged Linfield for the league title, after being 13 points behind at one stage.

They ended up as runners up. The Crues then entered the —12 UEFA Europa League and received their biggest draw since the famous game against Liverpool 35 years before, as the side drew Premier League team Fulham in the second qualifying round.

In the home tie the side put up a brave fight, with new signing Timmy Adamson scoring an equalising goal and striking the bar with the score poised at 1—1, before eventually succumbing 1—3.

At the same time, Seaview underwent extensive renovation, with two new stands and new seating installed, making the ground all-seater and one of the most modern sports stadiums in Northern Ireland.

The —15 season was a groundbreaking one for Crusaders. Despite this, the side saved their best performances for the league, going unbeaten from December to April and winning 12 of 13 games.

A 1—0 derby victory away to Cliftonville thanks to a Paul Heatley goal all but sealed the title, [24] with a 2—0 home win the following week against Glentoran with goals from Declan Caddell and yet another from Heatley confirming the Gibson Cup's place at Seaview.

In the —16 season , Crusaders retained the league title for the first time in their history, after a 3—1 victory over Cliftonville at Solitude on 19 April The —17 season was the first since —14 that Crusaders failed to win any silverware.

However, the Hatchetmen bounced back in the —18 season , regaining the Gibson Cup in a title race that went to the final day of the season.

In the end, it was a 2—1 victory at the Ballymena Showgrounds on 28 April that brought the league title back to Seaview for the 3rd time in 4 years, thanks to goals from Philip Lowry and David Cushley , after Cathair Friel opened the scoring for Ballymena United and threatened to send the title to eventual runners-up Coleraine.

In the first qualifying round of the —19 Champions League , Crusaders received their biggest European draw since facing Fulham 7 years earlier, being drawn against European group stage regulars and Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad.

In the first leg, Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Crusaders 2—0 at Molineux. Sean O'Neill S. Neil Shields N. Michael Ruddy M.
